Make the Cupcakes
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the egg, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
Slowly stir in the hot coffee until fully combined. The batter will be thin.
Fill each cupcake liner about ⅔ full.
Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer the cupcakes to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Fudge Frosting
Beat the softened butter until creamy.
Mix in the melted chocolate and vanilla extract.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
Add the heavy cream one tablespoon at a time until the frosting becomes smooth, thick, and spreadable.
Pipe or spread the frosting generously onto the cooled cupcakes.
Decorate with chocolate curls, sprinkles, or fudge pieces if desired.
