Step 1: Prepare the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar for 3–4 minutes until light and fluffy.
Step 4: Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
Step 5: Combine the Batter
Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Step 6: Bake
Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 7: Make the Buttercream
Beat the butter until creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
Mix in the caramel sauce, vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
Step 8: Decorate
Pipe the caramel buttercream onto the cooled cupcakes.
Drizzle caramel sauce over each cupcake.
Finish with sea salt flakes or caramel candies if desired.
